Meet the Therapist

Kristine Gangnier L.M.T., C.Y.T. -

I have been working as a massage therapist for over fifteen years. After graduating from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy in 2007, I continued to take classes at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts where I became a certified yoga teacher. Other training includes training in the Rotator Cuff, Sacred Hot stone massage and Prenatal massage.

    Massage Modalities

Peaceful Escapes offers modalities that are all very therapeutic. During your session at Peaceful Escapes it is not uncommon for the therapist to incorporate two or more of the modalities offered here.

When you come to our center we will work with you to find which modalities work best for you.

  • Swedish Therapeutic

Swedish therapeutic is a massage focused on relaxation which allows your body to reconnect and promote a healthy blood flow. Benefits include increased range of motion, prevention of disease and injury, decreased feelings of anxiety and stress and increased body awareness. Swedish therapeutic massage allows the “flight or fight” nervous system to shut down so the parasympathetic nervous system can improve.
  • Prenatal

Prenatal massage helps a pregnant woman to relax tense muscles and reduce stress and anxiety while providing relief from pain. The expanding womb puts a lot of stress on the shoulders, abdominal area and back muscles of the expecting mother. Low back pain and sciatica are common during pregnancy so applying pressure to these sore spots can relieve the tension and pain. Prenatal massage focuses on the areas of discomfort giving the mother an opportunity to enjoy the blessings of motherhood.
  • Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage involves slower movements and more pressure than a swedish massage. While receiving a deep tissue you may feel varying degrees of discomfort that should never go above a 7 on the pain scale. The pain scale goes from 1- 10. Level one is feeling barely anything at all while a level of ten is unbearable. Your massage therapist will work with you to find the pressure that is best for you. The benefits of deep tissue include the release of chronic patterns of tension and pain. Deep tissue also accesses the muscles that are found in the deeper levels found underneath the superficial muscles in your body. Trigger point therapy is often utilized as a complement to the session. See below for more information on Trigger point.
  • Trigger Point

Trigger Point Therapy is a highly effective technique used to alleviate chronic pain and dysfunction. Trigger points are extremely common and become painful in nearly everyone’s life at some point. The severity of the trigger point can range from agonizing incapacitating pain caused by very active trigger points to painless restrictions in movement and distortions of posture with inactive trigger points. During this treatment the therapist applies pressure to the trigger point to promote a release by the trigger point then the therapist “strips” the muscle to push access build up out and finally applies a stretch to lengthen the tightened muscle. During this session the therapist with work with your pain tolerance to achieve a healthy therapeutic session.
  • Sacred Hot Stone Massage

Sacred Hot Stone Therapy uses the ancient science of Ayurveda to balance Vata, or the wind element in the body. This element is the most common imbalance with people who live a fast paced, multi-tasking life. Along with reducing stress by calming the “internal wind” Sacred Hot Stone Therapy is also gently detoxifying and nurturing.
  • Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese word in which “shi-” refers to finger and “-atsu” means pressure. It is a form of soft-tissue manipulation by thumbs, fingers, and palms to apply pressure to correct internal malfunctioning, promote and maintain health, and affect specific diseases. Techniques used include stretching, holding, and most commonly, leaning body weight into various points along ki channels. Shiatsu is typically done on a mat with the client dressed in comfortable clothing. The therapist will then apply a gentle pressure along the energy lines.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using Aromatherapy to bring health and clarity to your mind, body, and spirit. The natural oils are extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant. The aroma from the oils enhances psychological and physical well-being and is believed to stimulate brain function. Aromatherapy can be absorbed through the sense of smell or through the skin to promote whole-body healing. Before each session you are welcome to choose any of our Aromatherapy, though you may choose to not use any. If you have allergies to any of the Aromatherapy please inform your therapist. Below is a list of the pure Aromatherapy offered at Peaceful Escapes along with their benefits. Aromatherapy used at Peaceful Escapes Holistic Center are intended to enhance the therapeutic session and are not used to treat illnesses, wounds or any other serious health issues. Aromatherapy should never be taken internally without consulting a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
